  End of season review.

As this season draws to a close and we await the new season perhaps now is a good time to reflect on the season just gone. “Better than ever before” is a good way to start, as it surely was on all the lakes, lets start with the Jigsaw, this lake produced double the amount of thirty pound plus carp than it did in the previous year, for instance since Easter the lake has produced no less than six carp over thirty pounds, (also 4 over 27lb) five of the thirty’s being commons and the other the beautiful fully scaled, stalked in the margin at 34lb 12oz. The “big linear” has steadily grown through the seasons to become the “big boy” of the lake he is in pristine condition and has looked absolutely stunning both times he has been captured over forty pounds (41lb 12oz), to me he is the epitome of a Jigsaw carp, BIG, DARK and HANDSOME and if he continues to grow, as he has done, he is destined to become a real WHACKER. The commons are simply stunning and remind me a lot of the old Redmire fish that I used to dream about, only a few years back it was something special to catch a twenty pound common and many anglers who had fished for a long time had not managed this, how things change. The commons in the Jigsaw are just gorgeous and if you ever wanted or dreamed of catching a big common then these are the fish, perfect common carp shape, solidly built, big fins and scale perfect, its hard to say how many are in the lake over twenty five pound as some go “missing” for a couple of seasons and then get caught again only considerable bigger and as with all commons distinguishing them apart is not the easiest job. A couple in particular are packing on the weight and I am sure it won’t be long before we have a forty pound common again. Unfortunately the uncaught monsters that are often seen remain just that, I will be glad when I can stop writing this, can some one please catch one!

Ecton or the Big lake as it is affectionately known, the season went really well for some, while others struggled, several multiple catches with five or six fish, the big heavily scaled linear’s, double linear’s putting in the odd appearance with a steady increase in weight the biggest over 40lb. A couple of commons that I did not see photos of last year, put in appearances at 35lb plus, previous captures in 2007 they were 30lb-31lb, once again its difficult to estimate the numbers of big commons in this lake, there are some awesome mid to upper twenty commons also getting caught that look young fish which I am recording for the first time, these look pristine and un caught, maybe just getting a taste for bait? As usual the lakes received little attention through out the colder months, consequently catches were as rare as the anglers, I am sure any or all of the lakes would fish well through out the colder months, if a concerted effort was made by a few anglers.

What is amazing is the growth of our babies these were stocked in January 2005 when they were three years old between 3lb and 4lb, seventy in the big lake and thirty in Jigsaw, in September this year some were over twenty six pounds (possibly bigger I am trying to match them up to photos I have been supplied) in the next two seasons most of these fish will be over thirty pounds phenomenal! (another hundred thirty pounders on site).

We are presently working on the website to include the stocking video and stills of them going in as babies, see if you can recognise them or indeed have any photos of them; we would very much like to see them.

Talking of stocking this winter we introduced some heavily scaled Future fishery’s fish details will be found on our website shortly.

We also have some of the famous Dinton Pastures strain of carp, which have come from the same brood stock that have produced 50lb+ carp, in stock ponds waiting to be stocked .

The Clover Lake

What a beautiful little lake this is, and at last showing its true potential, lots of the fish are caught from the margins, in close ,and without being rude, the standard of angling and anglers has vastly improved, lots of fish are now over twenty pound, every other one if you are lucky. Some anglers have had tremendous success on this lake which can be tricky at times, but the rewards are there. In the last fortnight alone three carp have been caught over thirty pounds including a 31lb 14oz common on a floater, there was also an 11lb2oz tench caught by a carp angler and a 30lb carp caught by a tench angler, plenty of action for those that have this intimate water sorted and only better things to come I am sure.

Please check out the gallery’s to see photos of these fish and more.

We now have a forum for lake members only, to take part in friendly discussions, tackle for sale, etc.

One of the Jigsaw jewels the big linear caught at 40lb+ both times.

A great result for two deserved anglers and good guys ,well done Giles and Rob.

PERSEVERANCE PAYS OFF..Ask Rob Buckner

"Its weight was recorded at 26lb 14oz. it was a lovely looking fish that fought really well after eventually sucking down my rubber dog biscuit, that it had previously spat out about 5 times! a very clever carp that was a real challenge, im chuffed. "
